15 Years of Cinematheque: Waydowntown (2000) & More

  • Globe Cinema 617 8 Avenue Southwest Calgary, AB, T2P 1H1 Canada (map)

15 YEARS OF CALGARY CINEMA!

Directed by Gary Burns | Canada | 87 mins

The world of interconnected office buildings, apartment complexes and food courts (shot in all its fluorescent glory on digital video) is the backdrop for Waydowntown, where young office workers Tom, Sandra, Randy and Curt, have all staked a month's salary on a bet to see who can stay indoors the longest. It's lunch hour on day 24 of the wager and everyone's pretty much reached their breaking point.

To celebrate our 15th year of Calgary Cinematheque,  we’re hosting a special anniversary screening of Waydowntown (2000), shown in 35mm - how it was originally intended to be viewed.

Directed by Gary Burns, one of the founding members of the Calgary Cinematheque, Waydowntown shows the uniquely interconnected world of Calgary, through the Plus + 15’s.

In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, we honour and acknowledge that this screening takes place on Moh’kinsstis and the traditional Treaty 7 territory, as well as the oral practices of the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani as well as the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3 within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. Finally, we acknowledge all Nations, Indigenous and non, who live, work and play, as well as help steward this land, honour and celebrate this territory.
