Infamous as one of the most expensive French films ever produced, and iconic because of its extravagant, ecstatic visual romanticism, Leos Carax’s Les Amants Du Pont-Neuf (Lovers On The Bridge) remains its directors most epic vision of love on the margins of society.
Alex (Denis Levant) is a homeless fire eater deeply in love with an arts student (Juliette Binoche) who is slowly losing her sight. Living in desperation on the famed Pont-Neuf Bridge in Paris, they stage a rhapsodic love story against France’s bicentennial celebrations (complete with fireworks and water skiing). Acclaimed as one of the greatest of European films and possibly one of the greatest films period, Lovers On The Bridge is blazing cinema.
