Divine Intervention (2002)

  • Globe Cinema 617 8 Avenue Southwest Calgary, AB, T2P 1H1 Canada (map)

Directed by Elia Suleiman | France | 92 mins

Part of our Courageous Comedians Series

A surreal series of interconnected sketches lampooning the absurdity of life in Palestine, Divine Intervention was the second in a thematically related series of films by Elia Suleiman. Drawing comparison to the works of Buster Keaton and Jacques Tati, the film won international acclaim and controversy. A demonstration of how comedy can sometimes explore complex issues better than drama, Suleiman's deadpan comedy shows a completely different line of descent from Keaton than the high octane stunt comedy of Jackie Chan.
