Calgary Cinematheque seeks a dynamic, organized, and self-motivated individual for the part-time contractor position of Communications Coordinator. The Communications Coordinator reports directly to, and works closely with, the Calgary Cinematheque Board of Directors, and coordinates with the Operations Manager, Programming Coordinator, and Bookkeeper.

Responsibilities include:

  • Overall – Promotion of Calgary Cinematheque's events and activities, including three to four film screenings per month over the September to April screening season, with off-season organizational and promotional work as well.
  • Communications and Marketing – E-newsletter, website, social media, digital onscreen media, promotional writing, press releases, media story pitching, advertising management, and building community partnerships.

The ideal candidate will have experience in marketing, communications, and new media, including website management. A keen interest in film (ideally with a background in film studies) as well as in non-profit management is highly desirable. Photoshop/Illustrator skills are an asset.

Time requirements and compensation

This is a part-time position subcontracted through the Calgary Cinematheque's general contractor, Travartis, with hours ranging from approximately 16/month to 40/month, dependent on our planning and operations cycle. The position requires attendance at meetings of our Marketing and Communications Committee as necessary. Hours are generally flexible and no formal office hours are required, but the successful candidate will be expected to work proactively and to adhere to our publicity timelines.

Compensation for the position is $25/hr.

This position may be combined with the position of Programming Coordinator for the right candidate.

The Programming Coordinator reports directly to, and works closely with, the Calgary Cinematheque Board of Directors, and coordinates with the Operations Manager, Communications Coordinator, and Bookkeeper.

Responsibilities include:

  • Overall – Office organization and coordination of three to four film screenings per month over the September to April screening season, with off-season organizational work as well.
  • Program and Events Management – Print traffic (film booking, transit, invoice payment, digital key handling), venue booking, volunteer management, box office management, coordination of three to four screenings per month and additional special events as needed.
  • Office and Meetings – Maintaining Calgary Cinematheque documents including screening schedule and box office reporting. Keeping track of and dealing with correspondence, and directing it to the Board or other personnel as appropriate. Attending monthly board meetings and taking minutes. Attending committee meetings as necessary.
  •  Funding and Financials – Liaising with the Bookkeeper to assist with financial record keeping, conducting bill payments and bank runs, providing budget input, coordinating casino event and any other fundraisers, and ideally grant writing and some grant reporting.
  • Communications and Marketing – Possibly some website maintenance, in conjunction with Communications Coordinator.
