Calgary Cinematheque is looking for new board members, to be elected at our AGM in November 2017. Cinematheque members and general public are asked to put forward for consideration names of individuals who would make good board members. The submission of a candidate does not necessarily mean that the person will be asked to stand for election. Please consider carefully whether the person you are suggesting can fulfill the responsibilities set out below. Updates will be posted on our website, sent out via our newsletter, and shared via social media. We will update you after our first round of assessment, by September 6, 2017.

Committees with positions available are: Marketing & Communications, Programming, and Governance. Typical monthly commitment would likely be 25+ hours, for committee chairs. Outside of monthly meetings (the first Tuesday of every month), limited committee side meetings, and committee roles, we are looking for specific skills to fulfill certain responsibilities, such as:

  • Availability and ability to introduce films throughout the season.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop/Graphic Design/Art Direction.
  • Supporting Marketing/Communications Strategy and day-to-day Execution.
  • Programming Experience for festivals and event partnerships.

If you are interested in supporting and creating critical cinema experiences in Calgary, please submit an expression of interest, including the following by 5:00PM MST August 31, 2017, to Stacey Perlin (programming@calgarycinema.org):

  • A one-page document outlining your interest and understanding of Calgary Cinematheque and its initiatives, and what you feel you can contribute to the organization.
  • Your current resume, and a short bio.
  • Your general work-week schedule, so we can contact you for further discussion and an interview.

If you wish to nominate a candidate for the position of Director, please submit a letter of nomination and a short biography for the candidate, to the Calgary Cinematheque office no later than 5:00PM MST August 31, 2017. Nominations may be sent by email as well. Note that if a person suggested as a candidate is not a current member, they may be required, if asked to run for office, to become a member under the terms of most positions. All Directors are elected for a minimum term of two years.

Responsibilities and Duties of Calgary Cinematheque Board Members
Service as a member of our Board of Directors requires time, dedication and commitment to the aims and purpose of Calgary Cinematheque. For us to fulfill our unique role and reflect the views of our membership each season, Board members must participate fully in their roles and functions. Part of the due diligence required of Directors is attending Board meetings and keeping yourself informed about affairs by reading the materials prepared for the meetings, newsletters, and e-mail bulletins.
